Post Description

Pay Scale   Pay Matrix level of -14
Age   Not exceeding 50 years as on normal closing date. Relaxable for regularly appointed Central/U.T. Government Servant upto Five years as per instructions/orders issued by Govt. of India from time to time. Essential Qualification (s)   A. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
(i) Certificate of competency of Marine Engineer Officer Class-I(Steam or Motor or Combined Steam and Motor) as specified in Section 78 of the Merchant Shipping act,1958(44 of 1958) or equivalent as specified in section 86 of the said Act and five year’s Service at sea of which one year service as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer.
(ii) Certificate of competency of extra first class Engineer as Specified in Section 78 of the Merchant Shipping act,1958(44 of 1958) or equivalent as specified in section 86 of the said Act and Ten year’s of experience in survey and inspection of foreign going merchant ships and equipments on board such Ships .
OR
Post Graduate Diploma in Maritime Operation and Management awarded by the Indian Institute of Technology or equivalent and twelve years of experience in survey and inspection of foreign going merchant ships and equipments on board such ships.
OR
M.Sc degree in Maritime Affairs covering all aspects of ‘Administration of Maritime Safety and Environment Protection from the World Maritime University, Malmo, Sweden or equivalent’ and twelve years experience in survey and inspection of foreign going merchant ships and equipment on board such ships.
Note -1 Candidates shall be required to pass the sight test conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department, which may however, be taken with aids.
Desirable Qualification (s)  
Duty(ies)   Survey, Certification, Registration, inspection, Audit of Merchant Ships as per Merchant Shipping Act, Administrative duties as Head of the Department for MMD, conduct of examination and issuance of CoC, as per Merchant Shipping Act 1958.
Probation   One Year for Direct Recruits
Headquarters   Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai and Marcantile Marine Departments located all over India.
Other Details   General Central Service, Group ‘ A ’ Gazetted, Non-Ministerial. The post is permanent.
Any Other Conditions   Governed by the New Pension Scheme of 01.01.2004.
